Leo Matthew

Leo Matthew Temela is a dynamic rapper and singer hailing from Kimmirut in Nunavut. Raised by an Inuk mother and a French/Métis father, Leo's childhood was rooted in the tight-knit community of Kimmirut. As a teenager he moved to Quebec City, but found himself drawn back to the Arctic after graduating high school, driven by a deep desire to reconnect with his family and immerse himself in his native language, Inuktitut.

Leo's journey into the world of music began as a personal expression of his feelings and experiences. He started experimenting with beat-making and songwriting, creating a unique sound that blends pop, R&B, and hip-hop influences reminiscent of global icons like Ed Sheeran, Wiz Khalifa, and Justin Bieber. While recognition and fame were not Leo's primary goals, his passion for music and storytelling became the driving force behind his artistic endeavours.

Leo outlines his ambitious plans to take his music to the next level. His goal is to become a professional performing artist, sharing the rich tapestry of his stories and culture with Nunavummiut, Canadians, and a global audience. In 2023, Leo recorded his first album with Matt Snell, a GRAMMY® winning recording engineer and producer, whose track record includes working alongside global superstars. Additional production, mixing, and mastering was handled by Gabe Gallucci, a Toronto-based producer with an impressive portfolio.

Leo Matthew Temela envisions his music not only as a personal outlet, but also as a means of contributing to his family and community. Through the expression of emotions and the sharing of stories and culture, Leo aspires to make a positive impact on the world.
