Our Story
Who is Hitmakerz?
Hitmakerz began as a dream to help a young artists.
Kelly Fraser was an inspiring young Inuk artist from the Canadian Arctic. She had a big dream, but she didn’t know how to make it real. In 2016, she met Thor Simonsen, a fellow artist and music producer. Thor was able to secure funding for Kelly to record and market her album. The album led to marketing campaigns, tours, workshops, sponsorships, radio spins, #1 hits, and award nominations. Before she knew it, Kelly was performing under the Eiffel Tower in Paris, at Parliament in Ottawa, and at the U.N. Headquarters in New York City. Kelly passed away before she was able to fully realize her dream, but the label she inspired lives on to support artists like her.
In a nutshell, Hitmakerz is a social enterprise pretending to be a record label.
Originally called Nunavut Hitmakers, the label began by specializing in Inuit pop music and providing workshops in remote areas of the Canadian Arctic. Since then, we’ve evolved into a multifaceted consulting agency that supports artists (and organizations) through strategic planning, fundraising, project management, marketing, media production, and administration.
The company’s mission is to create opportunities for artists to turn their dreams into reality and make music possible for artists in whatever ways we can. Hitmakerz is committed to kindness, inclusivity, and sustainability, and we prioritize the well-being of artists, striving to create win-win situations and unify the material forces of business with the divine forces of music.
