“Nalligigakku”, one of Joey Nowyuk’s biggest singles, is set for English release on November 5, 2022.

“Nalligigakku”, which translates to “Because I Love Her”, helped Joey gain ample recognition in the music world, as it reached number 1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown.
The music video, which was filmed in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, in the late spring and early summer of 2021, also won 1st place in the Indigenous Music Awards Music Video Competition category. On YouTube, Nalligigakku, can be found on both Joey’s channel, as well as his record label Hitmakerz account, which has over 52,000 combined views. “Nalligigakku” was nominated for the CBC Searchlight Contest, and the original Inuktitut track, which can be accessed across music platforms like Amazon, Apple Music, and Soundcloud, has over 250,000 streams worldwide, including 64,000 streams on Spotify.

“Nalligigakku” received high recognition at the Native American Music Awards, as it was nominated in the categories Best Folk/Americana Video, and Best Traditional Vocal Album. Since its inception, Joey Nowyuk has performed this song all over the Arctic, including at Pang Fest in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, Alianait Arts Festival in Iqaluit, Nunavut, FOTR in Yellowknife, NWT, Arctic Sounds in Sisimiut, Greenland, and NUPOP concert in Iqaluit, Nunavut hosted by Hitmakerz.
The song “Nalligigakku”, comes from the album Tumitit, which was released in July 2021. Joey explains that, “Tumitit is the Inuktitut word for 'footsteps' in English and, as the title suggests, I want others to walk in my footsteps by continuing to improve their lives and reach for their goals.” “Nalligigakku”, or “Because I Love Her”, is an upbeat love song that tells the story of an endearing romance in a lighthearted, melodic way.
